The lining heading allowance is 0cm and the hem allowance is slightly shorter than the fabric (16cm for floor length curtains and 12cm for sill length curtains).
LINING CUT DROPs are cut to the following size.
LINING QUANTITY REQUIRED
The lining required to make a pair of curtains is:
LINING CUT DROP x NUMBER OF FABRIC WIDTHS = LINING QTY
PRO TIP: We also add a 5cm trimming allowance to each cut drop to enable us to straighten the ends of the cut lengths.
PHEW!! WE'VE MADE YOU A CALCULATOR
To help check your results, and make the process easier if you don't like maths we've made this calculator for calculating curtain fabric and lining quanities.

The calculation for blackout lining is exactly the same as for cotton lining
Good question. Most linings should be a similar width to your face fabric but, occasionally fabrics are slightly wider than standard 137cm. This can happen more so with plain fabrics.
If the lining is too wide, you can simply cut it down to the required size.
If it is not wide enough, you have 2 options. You can add another length of lining to achieve required width - More often than not, you will only need a few more cm so it’s not always worth it. In which case, cut the edge off the face fabric but make sure it is on the outside edge so that the pattern matches when the curtains are drawn.
